APlaceInTheGarden opened its doors to the web at the 2011 Chelsea Flower Show with the launch of our website aimed at showcasing a unique collection of elegant zinc planters and decorative zinc objects.

The art of making zinc garden planters, so well developed in Victorian gardens, became lost with the development of galvanization for protecting metal garden accessories.

The owners of APlaceInTheGarden have brought together authentic reproductions of classic designs and some fine contemporary pieces produced by the traditional process of dipping the hand made objects into molten zinc.

APlaceInTheGarden partners, Richard and Jane Clifford, say it is the unique recreation of the molten zinc process that gives the beautiful natural finish and enables their planters and objects to blend so well within any garden, courtyard or interior space. The displays they've put together at their own beautiful gardens in Sussex show how well the zinc finish improves and develops with age.

After years of building their range and in response to many requests from other designers and gardeners for supplies of their zinc ware, Richard and Jane decided to launch APlaceInTheGarden, their own specialist online supply outlet.
